Chapter 3: Wrecking Crew

Luigi drove his brother Mario home from the hospital. Mario still refused to talk about the whole incident, but he also regretted having behaved the way he did back at his job at the zoo. Picking on the Jr. Donkey Kong was just cruel, and Pauline reminded him that, the hard way.

Back at the solitude of their home, the Mario brothers sat down to eat some sphaghetti. Suddenly Luigi remembers something, and rushes off to his drawers, retrieves a piece of newspaper, and returns to the table.

“Now hiring” said the article. Mario was in sure need of some money, after spending up to the last nickel at the hospital. He examined the article closer, as Luigi signaled him that they’d both work together. Mario gave him a warm smile and nodded. He could finally count on his little brother to help.

Next week:

Mario and Luigi have been hired to be part of a wrecking crew. They got to meet the rest of the team, but only one of them stuck out like a sore thumb.

Foreman Spike: a ruthless, treacherous, ambitious man, with radical sunglasses and a bushy, spiky beard. He spelled trouble for the brothers, and they knew it.
He had several men under his wing, and they were all determined to make the two newcomers’ life a misery, until the brothers humiliated themselves in front of them.

However, Mario did not allow such thing. Before they knew it, they were racing against Spike and his goons to see who the fastest wrecker of all was. It was a dangerous job already, but Mario didn’t give up, as he struggled to protect his brother, and beat Spike at his own game.

Things started going from bad to worse, when Spike’s henchmen stopped worrying about the wrecking, and instead, focused all of their strength on making the brothers pay, by dressing as some evil versions of what seemed like Grover and Elmo from Sesame Street.

Mario was already pretty experienced with a hammer in hand, when he single handedly defeated Donkey Kong. This, compared to back then, was a walk in the park. Shattering brick walls, ladders, and pillars… Mario and Luigi may have been outnumbered by Spike and his men… but they definitely weren’t outmatched.

Two months had passed, and Mario and Luigi were raised to a position where they gained everyone’s respect. Except Spike’s, that is, whom quit the job and was never heard of again.

Unfortunately, one day, Mario accidentally knocked a barrel over Luigi, which knocked him unconscious. Mario quit the job on the same day saying he had to take care of his brother, and look for less dangerous jobs next time.

After another week, Luigi had completely healed. And feeling bad for Mario quitting the wrecking crew job, he tried looking for another job they could take together, but cutting the danger factor up a bit.

He finally found another article…

“Help: In desperate need of professional plumbers.”

Luigi’s eyes fired up, as he showed the article to his big brother. Mario nodded and the brothers shook hands, before going out to buy plumbing tools.

I like it; it's very interesting

after reading this I was like "So that's how they became plumbers!"

I only read Ch 3. I'll read the other chapters next time I see them. Again, it's very good! And the picture too! =P
